In just a year as many as 17 million satellite navigation devices, music players, mobile phones and a electronic gadgets are disposed of into the landfills rather than making them go through a proper recycling process such as mobile phone recycling. These facts were revealed by a recent study by a big supplier of mobile devices and mobile phones. The 17 million electronic items disposed off in the landfills equates to around £40 per item which could have been earned by the owner. This suggests that the person could have possibly made more than £40 by putting that device through recycling instead of dumping it in the rubbish.
This scenario has far more to worry about than just the wasted money by not opting for mobile phone recycling. LCD screens, circuit boards and batteries inside the mobile phones are very harmful for our planet. These components are causing great damage to the earth and the people who live on it. Lead, cadmium and mercury are few of the major pollutants found inside the mobile phones and other electronic devices. These pollutants eventually break down and find their way inside the earth’s soil.
At the moment, there is no such law that makes dumping of electronic gadgets and mobile phones into the landfill an illegal act. However, in the UK there is a great incentive for choosing mobile phone recycling as a method to make sure that our planet is safe. Mobile phone recycling can make you some handy cash when you turn in your old phone. So, you end up not only protecting the environment but also getting rewarded for it.

Children, being our future must learn different ways to protect the environment. A local school in Warwickshire has launched a green initiative to spread awareness about recycling, including the mobile phone recycling among its students. If you too have children at home you may want to educate them about the advantages of mobile phone recycling apart from the recycling of other electronic gadgets and how they help in environment protection.
Sadly, several millions of electronic gadgets end up in landfills every year. If we were to utilise all this electronic waste, it could easily result in creation of 150,000 double-decker buses. You will now agree that the amount of electronics and mobile phones wasted every year is indeed phenomenal.
Recycling of old mobile phones means much more than the money you can obtain from it. It is done mainly with the intent to protect our environment and reuse the precious resources. The countries involved in extensive production of electronic devices, including mobile phones are witnessing severe shortage of certain metals such as copper, palladium and nickel. Metals like these are employed in manufacturing of electronics can be reused through recycling.
An old mobile phone model if emptied can also be resold in the market to a new buyer who will use and love it until it’s no longer usable and can be recycled for its individual parts. It seems that various schools, councils and people are starting to appreciate the importance of mobile phone recycling. It is becoming popular by each passing year especially post Christmas time.

Just in case you did not know, your old cell phones have the potential to be recycled for instant cash.
A survey conducted recently shows that mobile phone recycling is gaining momentum with more and more Britons opting for it to earn extra cash. In the previous month, £2.63 million was earned just through cell phone recycling. On an average, most of the mobile phone fetched £59.58 to the recyclers. The trade in of mobiles has also increased by about 30 per cent over the last year.
The increase in cell phone recycling is partly due to an increase in smart phones available in the market and people are increasingly demanding new technology so that they can use just one mobile phone instead of several devices. Devices such as MP3 music players are being recycled too as people are opting for smart phones which can be used for music too. Apple iPhones and Blackberry are the two mobile phones topping the consumer demand. They are certainly not cheap either. A new iPhone costs about £475 pounds. Since laptops, cameras, TVs and many other mobile phones are now being replaced by smart phones, many prefer to get everything in just one device, even if that means shelling out some extra money.
Mobile phone users can use cell phones for not only downloading music and playing games but also for watching videos and many more functions. It makes absolute sense to switch to a more costly phone and turn in the old mobile phone for recycling. The money received from recycling can be directed towards paying for a new phone.

Did you know that the Apple iPhone has touched 8.3% of the world’s cell phone market? I would attribute this partially to the success of cell phone recycling campaigns wherein the old mobile phones are turned in for refurbishment. Any Apple iPhone, during such refurbishment projects, which can be reused gets resold. Not only are such refurbished iPhones more affordable for majority of the people who like Apple phones, but also contribute to the significant 8.3% market share that Apple iPhones currently enjoy in the market.
In the last quarter itself of 2011, Apple sold 37 million iPhones and the entire 2011 witnessed around 93 million iPhones being shipped worldwide. Apple undoubtedly has cornered the entire mobile phone market. Recycling is not only beneficial for our environment and our future but also translates to more people being able to afford it. Many consumers find it difficult to purchase a mobile when it gets released for some hundred pounds. They then look for other ways to afford it, unless there are some free deals in place which give away phones with a new contract.
Even though this market share is being shared with the older versions of iPhones, it still is a good achievement. Worth mentioning is the fact that cell phone recycling makes it possible for iPhones to become affordable to many. An added bonus is that you also get to earn some extra cash each time you turn in your old phone for mobile phone recycling.

Mobile phone recycling has seen a tremendous increase.
As the markets are getting flooded with newer devices by the day, cell phone recycling is also gaining popularity. More and more people are now becoming aware of cell phone recycling and its endless benefits. Irrespective of whether a person is upgrading from one smart phone to another or getting his old flip phone replaced with a smart phone, the benefits of recycling surpass all.
All the time, new phones keep getting released whether it is Samsung, Apple, Blackberry or any other brand. When a new popular smart phone gets launched in the market, it catches the eye of all cell phone users. Most of the people are yet to upgrade from their phone due to the contracts they have at present or the prices, but one thing certainly tempting them is the inclination to upgrade along with 4G broadband. Moreover, people are also now more interested in the benefits that smart phones offer. If you do end up seeing the phones available at the retailers’ stores on High Streets, you will not be surprised to see that the majority of the phones are smart phones and not the cheaper flip phones.
In addition, an app is available for almost everything. Any person with even limited technological interests will find an application which is worth having on their smart phone. The mobile phone recycling further shoots up as and when new phones keep hitting the market.

In the public eye, a call has been launched requesting for cell phone recycling.
A local MP together with Yorkshire Air Ambulance has decided to join hands for a cell phone campaign. As a means for fundraising, the MP has asked citizens to engage in cell phone recycling. It is of extreme importance that this campaign keeps on going as an ambulance can mean death or life to someone in need. Needless to say, the condition of the ambulance should be excellent too. For those who are not aware, Yorkshire Air Ambulance offers emergency services to various residents and helps them whenever needed. People are being asked to donate funds so that they can sustain themselves in air.
The Air Ambulance and MP are working in conjunction with Humber Conservatives regarding old mobiles and asking all residents in the UK to recycle their old phones so that the money can be donated to charity. However it is completely up to a person where he wishes to recycle his old mobile phone. If you too are keen to help towards this cause, you may feel free to send in your used mobile phone to any recycling company. Alternatively, you could also go with Yorkshire Air Ambulance’s charity partner.
The idea is not just to recycle old phones, but also donate funds to the air ambulance. Recycling cell phones is just a new innovative way of doing so, since we will also help in protecting the environment by doing so.

The entire UK is witnessing an increased demand for smart phones.
Undoubtedly smartphones are extremely desirable by many all over the world and UK is not far behind. Mobile phone recycling is gaining a lot of attention as more and more people are attempting to procure smartphones these days. I must say that these handy devices are tremendously trendy too. As per the recent survey, smartphones are resulting in increased downloads of data from the phone onto the various electronic devices. This is no way means that networks are having struggles in keeping up with the high demand.
Not only does this issue need to be worked out by the entire mobile phone industry, even the phones must be improved overall. To get better and improved performance, people are waiting to see novel approaches. A better customer service experience is on their list too. Since a high number of new phones are entering the market, cell phone recycling is becoming more pronounced so that people can take advantage of better technology.
In just over a year and a half, we witnessed around three billion downloads on iPads alone. Around 44o million downloads were tracked on Android tablets. These numbers prove that the new devices are just as much in use as the mobile phones. To check out the new products in the market, more and more cell phone recycling is taking place. The cheap phones with few add-ons are now being replaced with phones having multiple uses such as emails, downloads etc.

The government is urging more people to step forward and recycle the old mobile phones.
The British people are being urged to recycle their mobile phones apart from any other electronics that they may have. A new campaign has been launched by The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills which aims at getting maximum residents in the UK to recycle their old products, especially now when the holiday season is over. Millions of people in the UK receive tons of new electronics including gadgets such as cell phones during Christmas every year, while just about 30 per cent ever are processed for recycling. Unfortunately, many old products keep sitting around unused or improperly disposed causing a major threat to the environment. The large chunk of electronics and mobile phones which get passed down to younger people at home also does not account much in the whole lot of old devices out there.
Mark Prisk is a part of this new campaign. He believes that every now and then, people must be reminded to recycle their old cell phones and other products and avoid throwing them in landfills. Going green is beneficial in the short and long run. It helps in keeping the environment clean by keeping all old products away from landfills as that can be extremely dangerous to our planet. It also offers monetary benefits as the recycling programmes pay their consumers for turning in old electronics and cell phones.
You never realize how much difference our small steps can make to this world.

Old mobile phones are required at the Starship Children’s Hospital in New Zealand.
Even though we are in the UK, we must learn a lesson from this initiative by the Starship Children’s Hospital located in New Zealand. Young kids are getting old mobile phones donated. This hospital has been asking for donations as charity to be able to hand over these phones for Christmas.
These old phones are generally sold to many developing countries all around the world once they have been refurbished. Some of these old phones are gifted on Christmas and some are sold to help raise funds and generate money for the hospital. A whopping 1 million USD has thus far been raised by this programme for this hospital using approximately 400,000 donated cell phones.
Cell phone recycling has taught us some important and lasting lessons. Even the Starship’s National Air Ambulance Service was initiated through the money raised from this programme. Many critically ill or injured children across the country were carried to offer medical care.
Since you live in the UK, you could donate to any local cause here instead of to the one in New Zealand. Instead of using the money yourself that you receive from mobile phone recycling, one could donate them to any preferred charity. Or even better, one can even buy toys for donating to local charities on Christmas. If your aim is to help others, there are ways more than one to take advantage of mobile phone recycling, so take your pick!
